True confession – this is the first time that I can remember knowing how I wanted to decorate for Christmas well ahead of time. I’m usually trying to figure things out at the last minute, which is how I wound up going in a totally unintended direction last Christmas. Loved it, but never intended to decorate like I did. ? I stumbled across some amazing plaid dishes on clearance at At Home last summer and I knew that they would be the Christmas inspiration for most of my house this year. So, welcome to my plaid Christmas breakfast nook!
My rustic shelves are usually the first thing in my house that gets changed up for the different seasons and holidays. My new plaid dishes, combined with my KISS method of decorating made them come together in a flash! Don’t know what my KISS method is? You can read all about HERE.
I already had the berry topiary, Mr. Snowman and the sled, but the “A Very Merry Christmas” tree came from Kirkland’s this year.
I added a new Christmas piggy to the shelves from my favorite shopping place in Wilmington, NC – New River Pottery. The red lantern is from Michael’s.
I literally stumbled across these Christmas plaid mugs in Hobby Lobby one day . It was amazing the way that they made a beeline for my cart!
I already had the little red lantern and the small lamp with the boxwood wreath lives here 24/7. It provides a cozy spot of light at night. The cute candy cane crock came from Kirkland’s and the candy canes themselves came from Target.
I kept things much simpler on the opposite side of the breakfast area, by adding just a few pillows to the bench. By the way, the art above the bench is a printable that made and put into an old frame that I painted. You can get a copy of the printable for free HERE. It’s available in both this large size and printer paper size.
There’s nothing cheerier than red and white buffalo check! These pillows came from HomeGoods, the hot chocolate pillow came from At Home and the plaid boxes in the basket are photograph boxes from Hobby Lobby. They make great boxes for gift giving – they’re already wrapped and they’re very inexpensive!
I kept the kitchen table simple too. A red striped grainsack runner is topped with a centerpiece consisting of a white pitcher with faux greenery and a cute little Christmas topiary, that I picked up at Target a couple of years ago, displayed on more plaid dishes.
I finished the whole area off with wreaths hanging from happy red and white striped ribbon in the bay windows.
Our Christmas breakfast area feels so cozy and inviting this year! We find ourselves spending longer than normal at the table, making Christmas memories with family and friends.
Merry almost Christmas, everyone! If you need some Christmas inspiration for your kitchen or breakfast nook, pin it for later!
